Only certified/licensed SUGAR® specialists are authorized to use the instrument. Special training is required to become authorized.

SUGAR® is a structured diagnostic instrument, currently the only one in the world, but there are several screening tools (UNCOPE S, Yalescale and others). It is a survey that examines the relationship of patients/clients to sugar, flour and processed foods.

The instrument is based on diagnostic criteria for harmful use and dependence on mind-altering substances as described in the WHO ICD-10 (International Classification of Diseases and health-related problems) and the APA DSM-5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) of the American Psychiatric Association (APA).
